I've been fitfully lobbying various local repertory entities for some sort of a retrospective for the late Charlton Heston, (an "axiom" of the cinema per Michel Mourlet) who career spanned decades and overleaped genres with ease.
Tickets are still on sale for today's 2pm screening of "El Cid" in sumptuous 35mm... advise purchasing tickets early, a leisurely lunch before settling in.

Kudos to the Somerville Theatre...
As part of their 70mmm Film Festival this week, they are screening two excellent examples of the Late Charlton Heston's "epic historic drama" filmography, "El Cid" with Sophia Loren & "Khartoum" costarring Sir Laurence Olivier. The Full Schedule Can Be Found Here.

Autumn in Massachusetts
A defiant blue gets into a quiet to-the-death struggle with orange, at sunset.
That chill that comes out of nowhere and a breeze that says "I'll be back next month, with everything I've got".
The dead leaves, always aloft, laughing at us, they can't be raked if they don't stop moving.
The awful empty stillness at 5pm, and that surging Charlton Heston feeling "My Ghod they'll be waking up soon!!!"
Anyone else ever feel like that?

Pick of the Week
"Major Dundee" a pre-"Wild Bunch" Peckipah western is screening at the Harvard Film tonight at 9:15pm...and it stars that monolith of man, Charlton Heston. A very tempting offering to say the least.
And the Tri Town Drive in has a superb double feature this weekend, "Death Race" (a re-make of Corman's "Death Race 2000") with "Tropic Thunder, certainly the funniest movie I've seen all summer. The only complication is the weather forecast, a tropical storm is supposed to blow thru tomorrow and that makes the drive in a chancey propostion, but day-um that line up is worth checking the weather channel for updates I think.
